Math/Philosophy Class Update

Sep 29, 2019
By: Allan White, Math

In mathematics classes we are emphasizing linear algebra concepts and introducing ideas that will lead to greater familiarity when our students take more advanced subjects. There is also a strong emphasis on skill building to facilitate acquisition of knowledge, unimpeded by confusion over mechanical processes. Students in geometry are learning to recognize basic geometry concepts and are learning the importance of incorporating vocabulary into their knowledge. The philosophy class has outlined the idea of the human condition, i.e., what is meaningfulness? what are 'why questions', and 3 major philosophers' concepts on what constitutes a meaningful life. We have examined the dichotomy of Western Tradition of Judaic thought of faith/belief versus Greco-Roman thought of rationality/reason.
