VCS Grading practices
How Grading Works at Vermilion Country School At Vermilion Country School, we do not use weighted grades. This means that all of our classes are treated equally—there are no extra “points” or higher grade values for certain courses. Every student’s grade reflects their learning in that class, no matter the subject. Instead, we use a standards and mastery-based grading system. This means students earn credit by showing what they know and can do. Teachers look for evidence of learning—such as projects, assignments, discussions, or demonstrations of skills—and give credit when students have mastered a topic. The goal is to make sure grades represent real understanding and progress, not just test scores or point totals.
